Mitchell & Brown Adds Non-Smart TV Mode to TiVo OS Range

Mitchell & Brown introduces a true 'non-smart' TV mode across its TiVo OS range, providing a simple, app-free experience for underserved customer groups.

Mitchell & Brown has introduced a new feature across its TiVo OS television range, enabling a full ‘non-smart’ mode aimed at buyers who prefer traditional broadcast TV without apps, subscriptions, or internet connectivity.

Designed in response to customer and retailer feedback, the non-smart mode allows users to bypass Wi-Fi connection entirely, hiding smart menus and streaming options to present a streamlined, linear TV experience. Unlike temporary or limited versions offered by some competitors, Mitchell & Brown’s implementation is fixed and resilient, eliminating prompts to connect to the internet even after a reboot.

“Retailers have been telling us for years that there’s a gap in the market for a genuinely simple, reliable TV,” said Dan Brown, Purchasing Director at Mitchell & Brown. “The non-smart mode is our answer. It’s not just Wi-Fi disabled, it is a complete simplification of the interface, turning a TiVo OS smart TV into a traditional broadcast set at the customer’s request. For many of your customers, that’s exactly what they want.”

The feature has been positioned to support specific user groups, including families purchasing for older relatives, care-home operators, and supported-living environments. By removing connected options, it offers peace of mind, reducing potential confusion and lowering the risk of unwanted changes to settings. Freeview access and AV input compatibility remain intact, maintaining core functionality for everyday use.

The new mode complements the brand’s existing focus on reliability and ease of use, which includes a seven-year warranty and interface familiarity. It also supports retail partners by providing a unique selling point not currently offered by rival brands, giving them a tool to serve markets often overlooked in the connected TV space.

“Our mission has always been to make technology accessible for everyone,” added Dan Brown. “The non-smart mode reflects that philosophy perfectly by offering choice. For the customer who doesn’t want connected features, or who values security and simplicity, it transforms a state-of-the-art TV into something familiar and unintimidating. For our retail partners, it opens new doors to customer groups that the major global brands aren’t serving.”

The non-smart mode is now available across the full Mitchell & Brown TiVo OS television range.
